About the project
Since Circulair Kwartier was formed, they searched for innovative projects in order to achieve their goal: transforming the city with the help of the sustainability and circularity approach and this is one of them, suiting their format. The project is intended for a continuous period of time necessary for helping Friesland to take a step towards soil improvement by producing bokashi from its own waste.
They collaborate with NHL Stenden Plastic lab and Living Lab retail & entrepreneurship, downtown entrepreneurs, Circulair Friesland and the waste processors of Friesland.
The project entails that the kitchen waste from the catering establishment is hardly ever separated and it ends up as a residual waste. With the use of a peeler, raw materials would be collected in an environmentally friendly, clean and efficient way.
Bars and restaurants have to deal everyday with a lot of a food waste as well as litter and packaging. Separating the waste requires no cost and also zero hard work.
This project it is relevant for the general economy as well as the social interest by their well-structured plan and ideas:
- Reduction of residual waste
- Raw material Bokashi and/or biogas – used as a raw material for soil and fertilizing (“Bokashi is a process that converts food waste and similar organic matter into a soil amendment which adds nutrients and improves soil texture.”)
- Education: free provision of raw materials for school garden with learning projects
- New business based on waste streams
- Deployment of De Schillenboer from social domain
- Mind-set of circular economy
After accomplishing the goals of this projects this are the visible results of it: new business development, deployment of social domain employees, awareness of waste and opportunities for reuse.
